What is the first thing that goes through your head when you get a thumbs down?!
Question: "Why?"
In other words, I get curious. What didn't they like about my answer? How were they thinking?

I see that a lot of people view this as a matter of free speech. I don't. There's a difference between saying that an answer sucks and saying that an answer should be censored.
- If i think an answer is bad, i give it a thumbs down. But i still support that person's right to post that answer. I'm merely registering an opinion about an opinion.
- If i think that an answer shouldn't have been posted in the first place, i *report* it. Then i let Y!A staff decide whether it violates the guidelines.
Likewise, when i get a thumbs down, i see it as questioning my answer--not as questioning my right to answer.
