Harry Potter World?!

Question: ok, so J.K Rowling has given her 'thumbs up' to a Harry Potter Theme Park....but why is it going to be built in Orlando????

since this all started in the uk, shouldn't they consider building it here? or will all British Harry Potter fans end up paying hundreds / thousands of pounds to visit?
slightly unfair i think...what about you??

Well I could see the romanticism behind building it the U.K., Rowling's British, the story takes place in the U.K. etc. It isn't much of a mystery though why, they would chose to build it in Florida.

To begin with there are only two companies that I know of that have the resources, in terms of billions to spend, and having the people with the expertise needed to create, a theme Park of the scale Harry Potter fans would want it to be. One of them is Disney and the other is Universal Studios. It's the latter that has bought the rights and intend to build it. They've already, built two parks in Orlando as well as several resorts. Tourist have the tendency to visit a specific theme park for a day, and then move on to something else. So it's good business sense to have chosen Orlando Fl, or Hollywood CA. The key is to get people hopping from one Park of their's to another owned by them as well, while they stay at their resorts conveniently located near their parks. :P

Most of the staff involved in the design and construction of a Universal Studios theme park, live in the U.S. It would be expensive to fly them to the U.K. and pay for their accommodations for the time that it takes to build the park which will probably take over a year easy. So it's just plain cheaper to build in Florida.

Of course like john_carlton04 mentioned there's the whether to consider, Florida has great whether for MOST of the year, between December and, April it hardly ever rains at all, unless a mild cold front is passing by. The average winter low is 60F 16C. Fairness, sentimentality, and romanticism are rarely taken into consideration when someone's making a business decision. :P

I think it would do well in BOTH places. I would certainly go, if they had one in the US

I totally agree. I think if the park is successful in Orlando though they may think of building in different places across the world.

theyre building a Harry Potter Theme Park?!?! gee THANKS FOR TELLING ME!!!!!!!*emo scream*

maybe cause its easier to get to orlando then to england..
unless you're from outside of the us...

or cause disney world and all that stuff is there.
so might as well toss harry potter theme parks up there.
how interesting..what kind of rides would there be there...

Yeah I guess so, no offense but does everything have to be built in those big cities? Thats my problem with that new theme park, chances are very small that I would ever be able to go to the Harry Potter theme park

cool i had no idea should be great.... harrypotter movie fan i don't read jk rowling potter books

Well i'm not from the UK, but i agree they should have a Harry Potter Theme Park. On the other hand it is a good business venture because orlando has so many theme parks and when most families visit Orlando they visit for about a week and go to different theme parks. Thats what i do when i go, i go to disney world and universal studios.

I shouldn't say anything since i live in California, US and i can easily fly a plane in to Florida. But i get what your saying and they should build one in the UK as well, i guess its not fair and it should be built where she's from. But i don't think she has a problem with it or she would of said to build it in the UK. Disneyland is all over, why can't that too....?

Good Question =)

with the exchange rate, it's a heck of a lot cheaper for EU citizens to come to America. besides, the weather in Orlando is a hell of a lot better than the majority of Europe & safer from terrorism.

the UK is not exactly a nice weather destination. who the hell wants to be walking around outside when it's overcast & drizzling all the time?

Not unfair at all. You Brits got everything else....

Well, I'm not from either country but for sentimental reasons, I feel there should be one in the UK. Kinda like what I felt about celebrating the Olympics in Greece in 94 (?) but Atlanta came to win the bid. That sort of sentimental reason.

But I think I have to agree with john_carlton regarding the English weather.

I agree completely. JK and JK alone created the completely awesumus world of Harry Potter, she's English so it should be in England close to where she lives so she can visit to at her leisure for free, she deserves it after all. But I think they should make one in America, Australia and say Tokyo (There seem to be a lot of Japanese Harry Potter fans) as well so the fans there don't miss out.
