? Why Are People...?!

Question: always striving to be "individual" and "unique" and "different" when we as humans are all basically the same? specifically people within the 13 to 25 age range. i understand wanting to be yourself, and there's no one better to be than yourself, but sometimes it seems like people tend to overdo it; they end up looking just like everyone else, since everyone else wants to be "different" too. why are young people always wanting to "stand out"?

Yeah, them "being themselves" is what they call "standing out" and if you have to TRY to be yourself, then you aren't really being yourself. And if everyone is trying to standout, then standing out is normal, therefore, they are just normal and doing what everyone else is doing.

Did that make sense? :)

I don't know! Those crazy emos!

I don't try to stand out...
I be myself, because I know who I am.
I'm not copying anyone.
And for all those people that overdo it:
I despise you.

everyone is different n that's what makes us the same

Cause conformity is boring and plain... : /

no one wants to feel unnoticed

You're not alone. Slick Hillary Clinton wants to have Socialism so we all will be the same. Except of course, the ruling Clinton's.

by not conforming to one thing, you are conforming to all the other non conformers, so at the end of the day, we are all conforming in one way or another.

well, if we are all the same and none of us are unique, then why is there so many different opinions in this world. ill bet you that you will get all different answers to this question. that proves right there that you are wrong.

~HILF MIR FLIEGEN~

because at that age they want independance and that helps.

i totally agree with you, they try so hard to be different, and like you said, they end up just like everyone else. i get really annoyed with people who think theyre unique and there is no one else like them, if you go to the mall, you'll see 20 more people who look exactly like them within 5 minutes of walking into it. just accept that you are who you are, and get on with your life.

Yeah, "being yourself" is the in vogue thing now

because they are too young to realize that deep down it doesn't matter to anyone but yourself who you are...

I am me ; day in and day out.

I don't understand. I think if anything, they want to "fit in" to whats normal popular or "in" for society.

In guessing, I'd say the possibility of fear, ridicule and/or rejection. Thanks for asking.

I'm not trying to be myself...I am being myself. I don't care whether I stand out or not. So am I just like everyone else? I don't think so. And if everyone else were just being themselves, would conforming to that standard be such a bad thing? It's not like I try to dress or act like other people. That would be stupid. I just wear and do what I like. Sometimes it's the same as my friends, sometimes not.

people rebel cuz other people do it and they end up getting accepted by conforming to rebellion

i think it's the truly interesting people like michael jackson, chris crocker, jeffree star that are real. they have balls.

Because they're in the process of discovering themselves. Experimenting.
