Rosewood was an affluent town in Florida located about 40 to 50 miles west of Gainesville. The town's population was all black. What happened was a white female in a neighboring town said she was raped by a black male (she was lying) and naturally the white men believed what she said and destroyed Rosewood, burning down the buildings and homes, and killing almost everyone who lived there; the rest left town and never came back. You can go there today, but all you'll see is a sign on the side of the road... there's nothing there.
