Your nose takes on the properties of the TARDIS in Dr Who - when the bogeys are up there they occupy a different position in the time/space continuum and have infinite mass.
Only when you dig them out they do they revert to normal size so that you can collect and keep them in your hankie to admire them later.
To get 'em all big again you need to poke them back up your snotter.
I had one this morning that was so big that by the time I'd got it out my nose had started bleeding. I think it was welded onto something up there.....probably my brain or something :-/
