I can think of several fashion trends that came & went around that time. Around the time of Saturday Night Fever, a popular shirt for guys was a button up shirt with a quilt embroidered on the back. The buttons were snaps.
The trends came and went but we basically dressed the same. A little more polyester. The stuff everyone thinks about as 70s clothes were mostly trendy stuff that came & went. (Like Nehru jackets in the 60s. Almost nobody wore those but everyone shows them in movies about the 60s.)
Those platform shoes that women wore, they caused more injuries than land mines. I remember seeing ambulances at our school several times, carrying off women who broke ankles trying to walk in those shoes.

Elephant pants bellbottoms, leather laceup boots and hair in a pony tail down to my waist, usually tucked in my belt.
Not much different then now ........
Never got into those big bell bottoms
