I can't imagine keeping something so precious in hopes that it may one day work for me. If it did not work for me and it did for others, I have to believe it was not intended for me. I would give it to someone that it would work for and be happy with the knowledge the magical object was actively in use.
Give it away. Maybe the person you give it to would be kind enough to repay you somehow.

It asks me to give away something that may change the world or not for purely selfish reasons.
I think I would devise a test to see who is the one person so pure of heart that it could not possibly pervert that person and then I would give the object to them.
Then again I could list it on eBay and get rich.
I go with plan A because plan B allows the buyer to wish for the money back.
But magic that is not mine is not mine to keep.

I visited the witches at "13" in Santa Cruz (no longer there) and they had this old necklace from 1930 and it had a bunch of protection stones on it. They removed the stones and sold a few of them to me and this one night I woke up and the stone had disappeared from it's setting. I looked all thru my bed and around it and it was no where to be found. I went back and told them what had happened and they said that if it disappears it's b/c it protected me from something that night and was "used up" and left.
I bought two more so I'd have some spares and they are locked in a chest somewhere and I need to find them again. Without them I've had to have open heart surgery and I could use them for other things as well.
I found a really cool silver book marker on the beach one time. It was either homemade or it was an antique but I really like it so I haven't checked since I wouldn't sell it anyway.
But all of my magical things work fine. I had to charge some wands in the moonlight and I thought that my crystal ball wasn't working until lately I've been noticing things in it in the morning and the same picture happens later in the day. The day I found my lost dog at someones house I had seen him in the crystal ball that morning. Trippy.
I live in a magical mystical area up in the mountains and high desert and you can feel the energy. Quick manifestations here too. :-)
