Usually the sentence that follows that is something like, 'I just do bad things'
Not very convincing for me
they have to prove it to me.
I still tend to give people the benefit of the doubt...but I'd have to get to know them better to really know for sure...

When someone says that, it's obvious that they're not and they are trying way too hard
I have found some actual people that are nice but i think you always have some bias, to make them prove it.
Maybe they were abused as a child, or something like that. And their self esteem is low.
most people believe they are nice, and actually most people are nice. I'm not convinced because they say it, but they aren't trying to convince me, they are just telling me that they THINK they are nice
Actions speak louder than words - show me, don't tell me.
I want to be able to judge for myself, and in order for me to do that, I have to actually know them. So no, not very convincing!

I do not believe that based on what they tell me, i have to see it and find out over time.
i think believing that without knowing for sure is pretty gullible

No one is "nice". Everyone has a motive...
Paranoid maybe but take a look at a newspaper... Everyone has an motive to benefit themselves

I never give away the advantage to a stranger, they are watched closely

That's my motto with everyone whom pretends to be nice or whatever around me and then there real character comes out.
at first not very convincing...but, sometimes i decide to get to know that person to find out if it's really true or not.

They say don't judge a book by it's cover but I'm a pretty good judge of character and I usually can tell by the vibes I get.

Just the statement no. If they are willing to prove it and give excessive information, put a face on it and ask nothing in return. Then you have to check it out. Maybe that person it just asking for the chance, an opportunity to be the nice person.
