I know the person(s) in pain, that is what they have pain killers for. I know that this is not the life the wanted to have. I know they wish that they were dead, but; I am not a killer.
What kind of friend wants you to be a killer for the rest of your life so that they can ease their pain?
Their life will end soon enough and you will miss them all too soon.
What I tell you to do is make their life as pleasant as possible until that day comes and show them that you care. They are not looking for death. They are looking for the absense of misery. Make them less miserable.

If they were suffering excruciating pain I hope I would be strong enough to help them leave it behind. The problem is, selfishly, when it is someone you truly love you want to keep them with you as long as you can. I feel doctors should be allowed to do the final act IF the patient truly wants it and the family agree.
