If I could buy one system, it would be the PS3 (the choice I went with) because it's a game system AND a high def player. It's a great deal. Yes, it's the most expensive, but it is the better value nonetheless. It has FREE wireless Internet access (if you already have an Internet provider); 360 makes your buy a $100 wireless router (if you want it to be wireless), and you have to pay $100 a year! Then if you want high def movies, you have to pay $150 for the external HD player, but you don't have to worry about that anymore since HD lost :( I was hoping they would both live in harmony. So in reality, you're going to have to pay for an actual high def (Blu-ray) player which is going to total way more than just a PS3.
Maybe you don't care about high def movies or Internet access for online multiplayer gameplay ... PS3 is also capable of better graphics, and because they use Blu-ray discs, their games can fit a lot more data than the 360's games can. The PS3 is also backwards compatible, so you can sell your old system for some extra cash, yet you can still keep and play your old games!
The Wii is a lot of fun, but I want the next generation graphics and, again, the HD player. Buying a Wii AND an HD player would cost more than a PS3, so that's not a good deal.
My first choice would have been the Wii if it were more available, but as time went on, I realized that the PS3 was actually the best deal in the market. I thought it was too overpriced in the beginning, but I neglected to take in to account everything it had to offer (and how expensive the 360 REALLY is when you want the things a PS3 already comes with). I also thought the 360 had better graphics, but I realized it was only because they had more time to get used to the system. 360's earlier games aren't as good as the newer ones, and the same is happening for the PS3. When it reaches its full potential, it will exceed the 360 in graphics.

Wii. Because it's one of the most amazing gaming systems I've ever played..... I love the physical interaction!!!
PS3 because of cheap blu-ray player, computer (when linux is installed), six-axis controller, great graphics, cheaper than 360 with addons, etc.

PS3. I already have a god investment into PS2 games and equipment. I don't like the games the Wii typically has and I don't want to support Microsoft any more.

Wii. It's way more fun to play with a group of people. You actually get to get up and be active, rather then just sitting and using your thumbs!
