How much do you think Girl Scouts make?!

Question: I was a troop leader about 15 yrs ago

Not only was it mandatory to sell cookies, they were shipped in cases only. So if we only needed 1 box, we had to buy a whole case and sell the rest..

The troop itself received a whole .38 cents a box!
The rest went to the "Council".
The girls had to pay for their registration, uniforms and books.
The troop fund paid for supplies, activities, and any pins, badges, etc. that they earned.
What do you suppose the Girl Scout Council does with all that money?

Hello Bingo:

The funds from the sale helps the council support the paid professional staff with salaries, health insurance & retirement pension funds, maintain their properties (council offices, stores, and camps), provides funds for scholarships for girls who can't afford camp costs, helps pay for insurance and legal fees, logistical support of the professional staff and members and other incidental expenses.

I wish that the girls did not have to "sell" cookies. I just wrote a check for over $200 for cookies that my daughter "sold." Now I have a couple of cases of cookies that I'll never eat, and will most likely be donated to the food bank. My daughter did earn a commission on the "sales," and will get a $18 gift certificate for these and the other cookies she "sold," however I would have much rather written the $200 check and been able to claim that as a donation to the GSUSA instead.

But the cookie sale does remind the community that there is an organization that is a positive influence on the lives of young ladies.

Keep on Scoutin'
