Why is it that I can sing a cockney accent but I cant speak one?!
Question: I don't know, but I know that many singers have the same problem. Many opera singers, for example, can sing in perfect Italian, German, French, and even Russian accents, but cannot speak any of these languages. Many English people can sing in convincing American accents, but would not be able to fool an American in an ordinary conversation. As for myself, I can sing 'Danny Boy' in a flawless Dublin accent, but when it comes to quoting from 'Father Ted'...
I have no idea why this phenomenon exists, but it is so prevalent, that I am going to give it a name:
Sing-Speak Inconsistency Syndrome (SSIS)

Erm maybe you're trying to copy a singer when you sing, but have no-one to copy when you speak in a cockney accent.
I kind of find that I have the same problem.
Are you English or American cos I rarely have heard an American that can!
