How do you feel about home schooling?!

Question: I home school.
I really love it, for the most part, because I get to choose what I want to focus on, and my schedule is more flexible.

Unfortunately, there are always the stereotypes that:
My mom sits and teaches me (she never has)
I'm incredibly religious (I'm Atheist)
I'm a farmer/hick type person (I'm not)
I'm stupid (I'm not)

I prefer public schooling

idk

you have no friends

i don't agree
cause they don't get the social skills

its good no bullies no clowns and u know ur teacher

I have begged for it. I just started my 3rd high school due to moving last week. It's a mess. My credits are messed up, and I have worked really hard. I want it so bad.

dont agree with it...Kids need gym, art, music all that

I think it would deprive kids of some of the social skills they need for later life.

good idea when it comes to the education aspect.
when it comes to the socialization aspect, these kids won't know how to react with real kids in a real society.
every home schooled i have met, has been sheltered and don't know the real world

against it, kids need to know the world and by that they need to interact with their peers

I wish my parents could have done it for me. So... I guess I feel okay about it.

I think it's walking a fine line. I think kids can learn more by being homeschooled because there aren't any distractions that u'd find in a public school environment. But at the same time, they're missing out on developing important social skills and interacting with other people outside of their family.

boring no friends no lunch time no boys ewwww

I am in favor of the right of parents to home school their children.

As a homeschooled person for most of my life, I'd say that it has definite good qualities, and sometimes it just sucks.

uhh to the girl that said you dont have any friends
HAHA that is so not true i have tons of friends !
not to sound conceited or anything
but i was one of the most popular girls in school when i went
but now i go onle because it is way easier
hahahahaa you are very funny

probably sucks, not seeing your boyfreind, or friends, and you can't pass notes

Depends On Where You Can Actually Get The Kid To Do it.
Coz my Mates Mena be doing her exams at home... and now shes moved in With Her druggy Boyfriend, And has Fckked Her whole Life Up. :D

no

I think it's ridiculous. Only arrogant, selfish people home-school their kids.

If you don't like the public school system, then do something about it. Get involved in your community. Don't just "take your ball and go home."

Its retarded!! I'm currently homeschooled. And i always feel lazy and stupid!! I have no choice cuz i'm in a really small town at the moment. But next year i'll be in a real college in a big city (my hometown) yay me ;D.

My friend home schooled her kids. It really depends on the situation. If public school is really bad, then I suppose, but the kids really need the social interaction of school, plus some kids really resent their parent being their teacher.

I think it deprives kids of valuable social lessons. Children need to interact with others and experience the world. I know some parents do it because they say the real world is too harsh for their kids, but the kids have to face the real world eventually. Better to gradually ease them into it than have them kicked into it at 18 with all these illusions and simple-minded opinions.

its up to the kid.
the parents should never make a destion like this.

I used to be homeschooled, I liked it!

Good God woman! If it wasn't for school outside of the home I'd never have a moment's peace! My son is more likely to get his @ss beat at home school than public.

Unless the child is ill, I think it's not a good idea to home school, there are so many things you can't learn at home. Like social skills, learning how not to get the part in the play, how to get along with others, learning about others cultures, there's only so much you can learn from a book.

The kids I remember who were homeschooled when I was a kid were always the "weird" kids... probably because of the lack of all I mentioned above...

If you live in a dangerous area and can't afford private school, then do it. Yes your child might suffer in social skills developement, but that is usually learned in the first 10 years. Send your child to public grammar school (usually not to dangerous)if you have to (for social reasons) and teach them at home to better their education. But if like me the only highschools available to your child are to dangerous by all means home school.

i would prefer the interaction but if you feel like you work better alone, then i don't see it being a problem.

there is nothing wrong with home schooling. i was in independent studies all through high school and graduated a year early.

I don't think its the easy option but so long as there is plenty of support and the opportunity to socialise it can be right choice for some families
