Answers: Is it the end of the world or just the beggining of winter?

It's a misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar. The Mayans believed the world will just enter a new cycle...2012 is not the cycle where the Mayans believed the world will end. And the Mayans killed themselves off by ecological degradation...which shows how much they know.

Religious fanatics/soothsayers/etc have been clamming the world will end since the time of the ancient Egyptians. And it hasn't ever happened because it's really just superstition.

The only time when the earth will end is:
1. When the earth's magnetic field dies due to a cooled core which causes the cosmic radiation from space to kill off life.

2. The sun becomes a red giant which either envelopes the earth or boils the surface into molten lava.

But both of those scenarios won't happen for billions of years...

Stick to science and logic and you'll have a much better life style with a clear vision of the future....

The world isn't going to end?
Didn't they say it would in 2000 to?
It's a joke.

I think it's the start of something new. ;O

i thought it was 12-12-12?

all that stuff about december 21, 2012 being the end of the world is just crap.

Beginning of Winter

It is a old rumor that many people do to make you scared.

sorry June 6th 2006 was the end of the world, you are just part of the Matrix now.

It is the beginning of summer/winter.

beginning of winter

earth will end like in the year 500000000000000000000000000000000000 somethin like that

lol. i think its just the beginning of winter.

i just think the mayains [sp? // whoever wrote that calender] just forgot the write the rest... or died before they could finish.

I think ...I'll wait until there to see it.

But I think only God knows when the world will puff.

Hope not, i would be a freshman in college by then!

winter

with the state of the us as of current and the current state or global warming experts are saing 2010 the worl will have a crash that will be hard to recover from but not the end.

THE WORLD WILL NOT END ON DEC. 21, 2012, YES ITS BIN SAYED SINCE THE TIME OF "JESUS CHRIST" BUT ITS NOT TRUE!

Well, I've wondered this same thing. I doubt it's true, but you never know.

thanks to all of those who said everyones lying- this is really creeping me out like you dont even know.

Just the beginning of winter. This stupidity is based on people who don't know what they are talking about - the only thing that happens then is the end of the Mayan "long count", not the end of the world.

nope just begining of winter! :)

for years people have been predicting the end of the world. EX:in 1899 they thought they would all die in 1900. i really dont think u or any one should worry about the end of the world

just the beginning of winter

The Mayans calculated their world to end December 23, 2012. But its so not true. God is the only one who knows when that will happen. SO chillax.

It will be just another day just like 1/1/2000 was.

Who knows? but it mighn't hurt to put in a veggie crop. Just read some very interesting channeled accounts from parts 1 and 2 Dolores Cannon "The Convoluted Universe" which answers all the big tricky questions with fascinating insight from various people

It's will be just another day.

End.

Here's a quote from Wikipedia's article "2012":

Metaphysical predictions

2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.

Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

* The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.
* The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by disembodied entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars. However, some Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala assert that there is no legitimacy to this theory.
* The 1997 book The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
* The book The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (possibly as above) that will allow the third Antichrist to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a possible nuclear war, although in the strictest sense it is unspecific as to nuclear war or some other natural or man caused destruction.
* The book The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth's magnetic field will reverse.
* The 2005 book Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy by Geoff Stray reviews several theories, prophecies and predictions concerning 2012 and finds where authors have used faulty information or have bent the truth to fit their theories.
* The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.
* The 2007 book Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation into Civilization's End by Lawrence Joseph does not make any specific new predictions, but it reviews a number of 2012 predictions made by various sources, and presents arguments for the possible existence of dangerous positive feedback loops involving solar storms, Earth's magnetic field, cosmic rays, hurricanes, global warming, earthquakes, and supervolcanoes that may be on the verge of erupting.

Other prophecies and apocalyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:

* Terence McKenna's numerological novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
* Some proponents of a peak oil catastrophe place major events in 2012. Richard C. Duncan's book The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge claims that the Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide. Several studies predict a peak in oil production in or around 2012
