What do people in the U.S. think when one says "I'm from Toronto"?!

Question: I was in the States from Sunday until today at 5pm touring a university. People asked where I was from and I said Toronto without mentioning Ontario or Canada. They looked at me like I was crazy or something. What was wrong with what I said? I know there is another Toronto somewhere but is that what people think first? Just asking...you know...for future reference.

Just about everyone who payed any attention in high school geography or knows anything about professional sports knows Toronto is in Canada. I think you might want to reconsider the university if its students don't know where Toronto is.

Canada right.

They pity you.

i think..
awesome, I love canada!

wait;
dont they kill baby seals?!
a s s hole.

When somebody says Toronto, i think of canada

Snow, maple syrup, stupid accents.

Canada, eh?

Just, that you are from Canada, that's all.

Id think, cool they're from canada, then go about my business.

I don't think anything about it, eh. I think Canada is a beautiful country, eh.

When someone tells me they are from Canada I think "sweet!" Honestly I have never met a rude person from Canada ever...I meet tons of rude Americans everyday.

I would think Canada, it's the only Toronto I know of.

I'm from the U.S., and when I think of Toronto I think of Toronto, ON, CAN.

But the confusion you experience is from people who've (somehow) never heard of Toronto---a sad lack of education. It's not that there's some other Toronto they're confusing it with.

ummm...CANADA! something must have been wrong with them i guess.

I'm from Toronto too. =)

Canadians are wusses... So if you told me you were from Canada I'd feel sorry for you and think you must be embarassed.

I thought it was common knowledge that Americans and Canadians take the piss out of each other,. ('mutual loathing'...?)

...same way that the Welsh gets all the 'sheep shagging' jokes here in the UK,. come to think of it we don't seem to like the Scots or the Irish very much either,.

Gesh! what a great bunch we "British" are,.

:o()?!

(randomness:)
actually I'm listening to the radio at the moment the Government etc etc are arguing about making teenagers sign-up & pledge some nonsense about Britishness - OMG - whatever next...

...I've not been to Toronto, but have spent quite some time in Vancouver and loved it I'd happily move there in a heart beat..

:)

Aww screw everyone else. Theres nothing wrong with being from Toronto, Canada. Actually I think it's pretty awesome up there. I spent a went up there and loved it. It just felt so much wonderful to be there, the money was colorful, felt like I could walk around without people saying "look at the black girl she's going to steal from us", people where friendlier, it was cleaner..I just loved it. I was sad I had to come back to the States. I actual plan on living up there for a bit and then living somewhere in Europe.

I don't really mind where someone's from. It's them that really matters, I don't care if you're from Canada, China, Serbia, Italy, Spain...you get the point.

Go Leafs!!!!!

heh, sorry, but Toronto reminds me of pizza ._.

Oh, it's a city in Canada? XD
nvm then :]

when i tell ppl that im from edmonton they are like what the heck is that? and then i say toronto and then they like ooooooooo. you could just say its where the niagra falls is you dummy.

your brown? me too!
