Why do we say "Bless You" after someone sneezes???!

Question: Do they really need to be blessed after they sneeze? And why does everyone have the power to bless? I thought just men of the cloth were able to bless?

I've heard that it's said because of two possible reasons. One is that your heart stop for a second when you sneeze. The other is that you are being blessed because breath is escaping your body and in times way back that was considered a bad thing.

Because your heart stops for a second when you sneeze, then gets to pumping again.

Because your heart stops or skips when you sneeze. Or so I've heard.

Back in the day it was thought that when you sneeze, your soul escapes from your body. When someone says, "God Bless You", your soul returns to your body, not allowing the devil to grab it.

This may be complete BS, but I was once told that people say "Bless You" because people used to think that your heart stopped beating when you sneezed. Thus without a blessing you might die.

Because people us to believe a devil can out of our nose when you sneezed. Weird but 100% true.

In olden times when people where (more?) superstitious, they believed that when the body sneezes, it is trying to expel evil spirits. Hence, the blessing after each sneeze.

We say bless you so their soul does'nt escape through their nose!

I personally say it to my brother only cuz it annoys him. So I make sure I do it every time he sneezes.

I think we should say... your so good looking...
