Are you using stars as place setters instead of using the watchlist?!

Question: I noticed that a question was asked about whether someone would remove a star from a question if they were not selected for best answer. Some folks replied that they give a star to mark the question and later come back to it. Since Y/A counts the number of stars in their stat sheets, it appears as though the stars were meant as a measure of how good a question was. More stars meant that more people found it interesting and therefore "starred" it. I didn't realize you could unstar a question until that question was asked.

Y/A provides a feature called the watchlist whereby you can flag a question and place it in your watchlist for later viewing.

So, do people not know about the watchlist or are you using the stars improperly or are you just being mean and taking stars away?

Whats up?

I only star questions I find interesting or perhaps it's a question I've been wanting answers to, too. I don't star much as I don't feel the need to star for no reason. I have contacts who star every single question I ask or others ask, most of the questions are just nonsense in my view, but people feel the need to go around staring everything. I think this defeats the purpose... why not just use the watch list as you have mentioned.
Oh, and yes, you can unstar a question you have starred, I found out by chance, I starred a contacts question, then accidentally clicked on it again, and realized I had unstarred it...but I quickly gave the deserving star back =)
Good question, Moe.

Cheers =)

nope I give stars when something interests me

i star a question that i find interesting

NO. I give stars if the question if interesting.

I give stars for both reasons but mostly because I wanna go back and see it later. I didn't even know about a watchlist. boy am I unobservant!

stars to rate

I only star if I feel the asker's question deserves one, never based on the asker and never as a way to remember which ones I answer. I would never take it back either! That would be unkind!

However...I am Watching... *singing Private Eyes* private eyes..they're watching you...they see your every move... private eyes... Have a starry day, Sunshine!=o)

Thanks for asking this, 'cause I know! ;)

Well, I think people don't really know about the watchlist feature because it's a bit hard to find isn't it? It's in a drop down menu, and since we know most people are here for fun and passing time, they don't really pay attention to details.

Then stars are even counted (watchlist is private) so that gives them a reason to star others so that they could get the favor returned. I've seen people getting 40+ stars for asking meaningless questions, but that's how it goes.

Then there are the contacts. Well, we are contacts...lol...and I do have a habit to star most of the questions my contacts ask, I think they're interesting, but sometimes, even if I don't know the answer myself, I'd star it so that others may get attracted to answer it, and so it could result in a good, needed answer.

If I'd be too generous, I'd say I do misuse the star feature a bit, but I don't go around starring everyting I stumble upon. And I don't ever take my stars away, yes it's mean, in a way, but now I know reasons for people doing that, so it would not bother me, at least. But the others would!

I don't know yet how to join in with the star thing!! But I am new and I will get the hang of it soon I hope!! How do I get on to the watch list???????????? From Jean

I think you just posted this to get more stars...lol!
