It's a 420 and it's the code the cops use to bust weed smokers. So people that smoke it will try to smoke at 4:20 or on 4/20.
420 is the California police code for "marajuana smoking in progress" kind of like a 187 is murder etc. 4/20 is also the day that the columbine school shooting took place. (by stoned losers)

It is a police code for "smoking illegal substances in progress". Most of the time this stands for pot. Pot heads have then moved this to be considered April 20th is the day to smoke or 420am or pm is the time to smoke.
