You only get points for TUs you have BEFORE your answer is picked as best, if you get any after they don't count, and you can only get a maximum of 50
EDIT: Despite what a later answerer has said ... You DO NOT get points for TU given AFTER Best Answer has been chosen. I have tried this on a friends account, who was a few points short of a new level, and giving TU to her BA's made NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL to her point score.

Yahoo! agrees with some of us in that receiving thumbs up for a best answer does add one point per thumbs up, but ONLY if your answer is selected as Best Answer. They are silent as to whether the one's prior to selection count, but when I get a BA notification on my screen, it sometimes tells me I have received 10 or 11 points. Go to your profile page then, and click activity detail, and it will show you the last 5 times your points changed.
Thumbs up for a question no longer receives a point, now only best answers receive points for thumbs up.
Both of them are counted in your total, those before it was selected as best answer, and those after. Sometimes, I know I have thumbs up before the question is resolved, and when I check my detail history, it may say 3 Pt's for thumbs up right next to the 10 Pt's for best answer. And thumbs down do not deduct from, or count against your total thumbs up credits.

yes you do get a point and you are not stupid at all. it never hurts to ask a question no matter how silly you think it is because to some people it may be intertesting.
