Conscientious stupidity is far more dangerous because it means that the person is purposely avoiding the truth.
Someone who is sincerely ignorant will be changed once they are exposed to the necessary information and no longer be ignorant. This would be the horse that you lead to water and it drinks deeply.
The conscientiously stupid will reject the necessary information and remain stupid. This would be the horse you lead to water but it refuses to drink.
One would hope that most of us are sincerely ignorant instead of conscientiously stupid, however the real problem is that information is used as a weapon - twisted, beaten, and shaped until it becomes a tool to manipulate instead of educate. It becomes harder and harder to know what is true and what is a lie. We all rely on a system of deciding which source of information is credible and which is not, in order to decide what to drink and what to refuse. Does this make us all conscientiously stupid, or are we just ignorant of which information sources are lying to us?
