Is a cynical outlook on life more of a benefit or a hindrance?!
Question: Yes. In some situations cynics actually get the benefit fo the doubt and it makes it easy because folks don't expect you to fold over. But in some ways it can be rather bad as some folks don't approach you with some things assuming you simply don't care.

A hinderance. It causes depression, negativity, and possibly becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Surely not a benefit.
Depends on who you talk to. I always expect the best so I am often disappointed and my husband always expects the worst so he is often pleased.
The best thing we have both decided is to be cautiously optimistic. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
perhaps its more practical, but i thenk if it makes the heart unhapee, its better to be unpractical n_n *hugs* ?
i think a good balance of proper judgement and careful restraint would benefit someone a lot more than certain extreme pessimistic or optimistic views.
I think it's more of a hindrance because it's the quickest thing to alienate you from others. It brings people down and can become catching, so most people run in the opposite direction (if they are smart!).
I expect the worse.
I'm rarely disappointed.
And sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised.

I consider it a benefit, given the ability to spot bad outcomes ahead of time and the fact that I never end up being disappointed.
Definitely a hindrance. A positivity feeds positivity, negativity feeds negativity. Plain and simple.
i can see why people would think that it's a benefit. it might not hurt you right now but in the long run it will. it destroys little by little.
