I think I have inadvertently offended someone, what to do?!

Question: I have done that many times. It's easy to misconstrue intent, especially if it was by email. I apologize and explain it was inadvertent.

Then, diplomatically appologize dear !!

I have done that enough in my life. All's you can do is to speak right up honestly about the situation. Most of the time, a decent person will understand and forgive.

No further remarks from me on this that would sound smart-alecky.

You might ask if you've done something. If you have just apologize and file that information away for later. If you didn't just say you were worried that you had and wanted to make sure everything was okay. Lots of times we can interpret a person the wrong way and think he or she is mad when it's nothing more than tiredness or a bad day. :)

Hey, you're an FBI agent, aren't you?

Shred all evidence.

Disavow all knowledge.

Bully your subordinates into compliance.

I though that went without saying in any "crisis" situation.....
