Answers: Yes, and little pieces of pot and tobacco between the pages too.... eww....

Yes, and it bothers me. I think that when you lend something it should come back in the same condition with a little more wear and tear - but not neglect.

A few years ago I let my aunt borrow the 4th HP book and it came back in tatters. There were medical instruction written in the back cover, and pages were missing. What the hell that's about I will never know.

Well yeah. But it went out that way so it's cool. If it comes back looking new, I know they lost my copy and replaced it.

Yes, many times.
At first, I was frustrated at this, but I came to learn that the friends that returned them in good condition lied about reading them, which made it hard to have a conversation about it.
The friends who really cared (or had the time) will bring it back in tatters, but spend hours discussing.
Dog eared pages and stains are the sign of a well-loved book.

never loan a book out.

...sure, but I don't loan out books unless I know they will be "read", after all...it doesn't bother me

I hate that, that's why I never ever borrow any of my books to anyone,,,,,

You bet your black eye I have!

books are like money - never lend more than you can afford to lose and never borrow more than you can bear to repay.... so i neither lend nor borrow - i'm selfish like that.

I have loaned books out before many years ago. I have never seen them so I am not sure on the coffee rings. Love, honey
