You never, ever, EVER waster beer in the name of humor, I wish most men followed your example. Man Law states, if any man leaves beer open or unopened for more than a week its legally yours.
I wouldn't feel bad. If he wanted the beer so much he shouldn't have left it there.

Tell him to get over it and that if he wanted his beer he should have taken it with him when he left.

Any beer that is brought into the household, gets consumed or stays in the household...once they leave, it belongs to you.
