I feel the same, I like it old school... I have Guitar Hero 1, 2 and Rock of the 80's for PS2 and I have 3 for the Wii... I got kind of addicted to it after playing a ton around Christmas with my little brother...
I have played Rockband and it is cool, but it can be too much with the different instruments and singing and all that... Plus I don't want to spend $170 for the bundle...

Guitar Hero; the tapping of the drums for Rock Band gets annoying
Rock Band, only because I hear it has a lot more songs and instruments like an actual band would...But I've only tried Guitar Hero and it was pretty cool.

Guitar hero is for 1-2 players, Rock Band is best for 4 players. I like guitar hero.
Guitar Hero 1, 2 and 3. the original is always the best.
Heroin Hero is pretty good too.
