When you go abroad on holiday do you visit the local areas as well as the made u!

Question: Absolutely!

I try to stay in a bed and breakfast in the local area or a non-chain hotel, eat what the locals eat and do some of the things the locals do to get an idea of the "flavor" of the area.

For that matter, I make *a point* of NOT driving on the US interstate highways and take US or state highways to wherever it is I'm going, so I get to see the countryside and interact with the people of the area — and there are some TERRIFIC "Mom 'n' Pop" restaurants to be found off the interstates, as well as some really *neat* beds and breakfast.

I try, unless its a resort or I'm on a cruise. For example, when I was in Niagara Falls, I stayed in a small house near the center of the city. Hell, I even walked down to the liquor store, came back, then drove to the movies. In a lot of ways, it's better. I spent time at the tourist places too.
