I'm a big fan of slow cooking, so I prefer a long pre-heat at various temperatures. I think it must be said that for the best roast you need plenty of trimmings, as well as the chicken itself. I guess it depends on the guy as you said, I can cook a good chicken, but i'm not a bung it straight in kind of guy.

Depends if you're trying to get it in quick during the Corrie break, then that's fine, no time for preheating, and to be fair my oven is preheated 24/7 anyway!
