Will my doctor admit me to hospital or will insurance not allow it?!

Question: I am seeing a doctor next Thursday for my stomach and wish to be admitted. I am in enough pain I know I will be in tears begging him, and he is nice, but does my GP have to approve it? What about my HMO? What is "legitimate" for an admittance that is necessary, in my opinion? My GP hates me so I know she won't be any help. Please any advice is welcome!

Just have the Dr. you're going to see and have him admit you. I would change Dr's if I were you. If mine did that to me he'd be out the door. It could be something serious, but you won't know until it gets checked out. I don't think your GP has to approve it if you were referred to this other one. He can most definitely admit you for testing. If he admits you your HMO should approve it. Lots of luck dear. /:)

yes

CUZ THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

Why is this in Polls and surveys?
Asking it here you may not get your answer.

Think you need to change your GP.

Go to the emergency room. They cant deny you, insurance or not

If you are in serious pain then admit yourself. You may have to pay for it out of pocket, so be prepared if your insurance denies it. I have medicaid right now (will be losing it due to 'making too much money' next month) and they denied a hospital bill and ambulance ride for me when I was in a car accident last month. I'm fighting the insurance right now, but I may have to pay $600.00 out of pocket. So not fun.
Good luck.

I might be able to tell you if you elaborate on the reason you want in the hospital. unless you really need to be in there you dont want to be. I have a lot of hospital experience my daughter spends most of her life there. it is NO fun, why does your stomach hurt? once my daughter had a sist in her stomach for over 2 years and they finally stumbled upon it by accident by doing what I told them to do. I had to throw a fit. dont bring on the tears bring on the anger instead. do you have a mom? that would be helpful good luck

Depends on diagnosis. If Doctor recommends hospitalization HMO hasn't much choice. If my insurance denied me medical care I would sue them for everything they are worth plus all lawyer and court fees. My attorney collects nothing if his firm loses so you know what they are going to do, try their darndest to win.
You don't give enough info.
Where is pain? Low on right side, possible appendicitis,
Left side? could be lots of things.

i don't know your hx. but, i would ask for either a referral to a g.i. doctor or go to the er. and make a call to your insurance company.

i always call my insurance company bf i go to any doctor anyway, just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately, a doctor is not going to admit you just because you are in pain. They are much more inclined to run tests on an outpatient basis.

If you are in that much pain, play it up as much as you can and go to an ER. They have to run tests to rule out anything life-threatening, and if you are in the ER with a serious enough complaint, your insurance has to pay their portion. Just know whatever your portion is will be higher than a regular doctor's office visit. It is possible that the ER doctor may admit you for more tests.

Insurance doesn't want to pay for hospital stays, so doctors are not quick to give them to you. You are going to have to be very convincing in your suffering, and be your own advocate.

Do you know what is wrong with your stomach? If not, I would definitely try ER asap.

Hope this helps, and I hope you are feeling better soon! :)

I would reask this question in womens heath to have better lucck.

My opition i know that you are in pain from the stomach issue i would have him admit you no matter if insurance covers it or not. cause you need the medical help for what ever you have. if you dont get help it can get worse, and you be hospitalized for long time term or even death.

Please Scully re-ask this question in the health part of Y!A

Call your HMO & see what they say. I know when females go to a gynecologist, he can prescribe treatment & admit people w/out a GPs permission.
Seek out a more sympathetic GP that might be more familar w/your health problem.
