It's cyber land .. it's all the belief one wants others to see .....Very few post a real pick ..... How many fat guys covered in Cheeto Dust do you see seated at a computer typing .. as a avitar .....
They just choose whatever they feel it's cooler.

i think most of them pick something that represents them, but in a cool way. as for me, it's who i am
some do but some dont. mine looks like me, but usally dont curl my hair.

It is usually a representation of what they think they look like. Not necessarily who they are, but there self image.
Every one has their reasons for the way their Avatar looks.

It all depends. Most people have avatars that mean something to them. Others have avatars with their own picture on them, probably because they're proud of who they are, as they should be. Then you have the cartoon avatars. Mostly, people create those to either look kind of like them OR to disguise themselves. My avatar is a part of me and means the world to me.... she is my daughter.

i think sometimes people model them after someone they would like to be like and others make it like themselves
