Do African-Americans keep racism alive?!
Question: I have to say African-American because "black" is somehow magically a racist word. Forget the fact that not all "black" people are african.
If we had White history month, we would be racist. But i know the excuse on that one... "Whites get every other month of the year." Oh yea, i am being racist again.. i meant "Caucasian Americans."
Yes slavery was horrible, but get over it already. Lets see some equality. Where is the Asian-American month, or South American-American month, etc, etc..?

Actually there are asian history month (may), hispanic history month (begins sept. 15) and women history month (march).
As a black person, I have to point out that, no we do not bring up slavery to make whites feel bad or guilty, and no we can not forget about it either. It is our history and there is nothing wrong with trying to remember and spread our history and contributions to this country. Like all people of color in this country, our history is not fully being taught in schools, sure we learn all about europe and it's history, but do we truly learn about other races. I find it highly funny that most children can locate all european countries on a map, but ask that child to locate, let's say egypt or nigeria and they cannot. We have been endoctrined to automatically know european contributions and their conquest (we all know the story of columbus, but did you know he was famous for decapitatating young native boys and men, and letting his men rape the women, he later died in a debtors prison in spain), but the story of the little people (whether it be blacks, asians or native american) continues to be glossed over (quick tell me who york is) and people telling us to forget it, it didn't happen to you. I say no more sitting by while our history gets dragged in the mud, while your history gets all the glory. No one tells jewish people to forget the holocost, so why should we forget slavery and the YEARS of tourture afterward that lasted well into the 70's. I will continue to lobby for schools teaching black, asian, hispanic, and native american history equally

It's funny that they want to keep blaming whites for slavery since it was there own kind who help get them out of Africa. We have allowed them to swing the pendulum the other way, they have everything going for them. I'd call this reverse discrimination.

Black ppl went through so many hard times and yet they are strong and proud 4 who they are! I am Greek and I am very proud 4 all African Americans and generally 4 all black ppl. I admire them! If white ppl went through the half of what they went there wouldn't exict white race today!! As 4 if they keep racism alive, well here's my answer:
1. How is it possible not to keep it alive? Since white ppl have been treating them so bad and still underate them it's normal 4 the black ppl to have anger for the white and hate them! i totally understand them!
2. Don't forget, white ppl started racism against black ppl. Why can't they leave them alone? For God's sake they are humans, just like u and me! White ppl are the meanest race in this world! even though i'm white 2 i don't agree with them, how they treat black ppl! I LOVE BLACK PPL AND SUPPORT THEM! Don't get me wrong, when i say black ppl i don't mean it in a bad way! The word "black" shouldn't be offensive cause it means color! So? white,black, red, pink, green.. they are just colors!

i think racism is'nt just about using certain words or celebrating stuff like black history month johnathan.. it also includes the attitude of people towards a certain race.. so i guess if someone uses all sorts of politically correct terms but still beleives that blacks are good for nothing(just an example) its racism...

Actually, there is an Asian-American Pacific Islander month (May), Hispanic Month (September), Women's History Month (March), Native American History Month (November). I don't think it is racist to ask about having a white history month - it is a valid question. The main reason that there is not a white history month is because the accomplishments and achievements of white people (particularly white men). People who make contributions should be acknowledged - there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. White men and white people in general have contributed a lot to this society and that is great.
But other groups made contributions too and it is easy for the contributions of other groups to get drowned out, forgotten, or even actively denied in some cases. Some of it is racism, but in my opinion a lot of it has to do with numbers -- there are lot more white people so it follows that there would be more white people to honor as well. So, these "months" are reminders to help us remember that EVERYONE had a hand in making this nation great.
I agree that we should have equality. But in actuality, racism has not gone away (remember James Byrd being dragged from the back of a pickup truck until his head came off - wasn't that long ago ...). This is why people continue to highlight it and fight it. So we have to fight it. If you don't think that racism exists - think about this. If racism and sexism didn't exist - why would we still - in 2008 - be asking if America is ready for a "black" president? Or a "woman" president? If there were true equality - we wouldn't even think about asking these questions. After all, in fields were there is more equality - we don't ask these questions. We never ask if the NFL is ready for a "black" football player or if the medical field is ready for a "woman" nurse. Yet we do ask about this in other places - which suggest that equality does not exist.
The bottom line is that we have freedom of speech, so people are free to express how they feel about it. If we can't do that then we wouldn't be living in America.
I agree completely. I have "black" friends who also agree. Why segragate "black" channels and "white" channels? Why cant it be for everyone? I know white people who watch BET. But there are black magazines too. If we had a white magzaine it would be racist. I know that the black community has been through alot but these times are different. We dont have slaves anymore. The reason for the kkk and black panthers to still be around is because people dont know how to let it go. Everyone constantly talking about it is what keeps it alive. And I know they say we have the other 11 months but are they declaired "white months"? No because if they were, it would be racist. Everyone needs to quit talking about color and just accept that everyone is the same.

I do however agree, there is a Black History Month and it celebrates people from Africa. However not all "black" people are from Africa. And there is a Hispanic Heritage Month.
What about a month to celebrate Asian's? My guess is, they are too busy getting a good education and making good livings that they could care less. They are focusing on what really matters.
Everyone should have a special time - but does it really matter? Isn't more important to get a good education and make a good living than to worry about a month being named after your culture?
How about Italian month? German? . . .
How about honoring the Native Americans of this country?
After all, they are the ones who have had it the worst since the "white man" came to their land!!!
