All of the Air Force bases I stayed at played it 1700 hours or 5:00. It is up to the branch of service I guess! I was in the honor Guard at one of them and performed many retreat ceremonies (the lowering and folding of the Flag at the end of the day)! The only thing that I did that was more rewarding in the honor guard was carrying the Colors (U.S. Flag), in the 4th of July parade in Boise Idaho one year!

I live a few miles from a major Marine Corps. base. Don't hear anything but their "war games!" The heroes at work!

no I live twenty minutes from an air force base. their airplanes and helicopters fly over my home all the time. its the most famous base in my state. it hosts air shows every year.
We live about 15 miles from a military base. No, we can't hear it, but when we lived on base, we did.
I do miss it -- I miss hearing the soldiers singing cadence as they ran..........................

i used to live ON them...dad's in the air force...
still have my ID card! LOL i never noticed if they played them...at least i never heard it on housing...
I live near several. It is awesome. Schools should do something like that, too.
i hear it at 6am and 6pm! its annoying!
It's pretty cool, except that everyone on base has to stop what they're doing (even driving) and salute and I know most of them hate it :p

I live near Camp Pendleton, and I can hear the cannons firing at night..pretty cool when the percussion hits my window and makes it rattle.

Yes, I do. Arnold Air Force Base. It's so big that no one actually lives close enough to hear that :(
