Seriously, what IS the point in licking Oreos?!
Question: Why does that boy on the advert say you've got to lick 'em?
It even says on the pack to lick them. I tried it unlicked and licked an they both tasted exactly the same....OK thr licked one tasted a bit more slimey but only because it had my saliva all over it.
Somebody PLEASE explain.

DAMNit!! Now you made me want Oreos! I'm pregnant and I have been ignoring my cravings everytime I hit the grocery store and see them but THIS is just cruel and unusual punishment, bringin them up at this hour!

the point is to get lard on your tongue so it softens up when you have the hard crumbs of the cookie.
Thats just the fun of it i guess, people just try to lick it to get more flavour but i guess it tastes exactly the same!!!

I always lick the salt & vinegar from the chips then eat them.

i usually scrape the cream off and eat it. its delicious. its just the slogan oreo have been trying to push. twist lick and dunk or something. i think dunking is even weirder than the licking part

i dont know. i dont lick them either. nor do i drink a glass of milk with them. instead i up the fun by seeing how many i can get into my mouth all at once. as it turns out, not many!

It's all a massive conspiracy we are all in on. The advertisers decided to try to make consumers do something stupid, and see if anyone actually did it to evaluate the effectiveness of advertising. The rest of us were asked to watch out for anyone who actually followed the instructions given...AND HERE YOU ARE! Its... really not a big deal honestly. Probably someone in the early stages of Oreo marketing decided to eat them "separated" (take off the tops & lick the center) rather then the a-typical way of eating them (bite!) ... And I guess it was a unique selling point for a cookie back then? and they decided to use it as a slogan to sell their cookie?
I highly doubt you will be singled out for not licking your oreo, and no there would be no difference in flavor seeing as its the EXACT same cookie you're either biting or licking ... except, when you lick you use the tip of your tongue and that is where all the taste buds that are specialized for picking up "sweet" flavors are centralized? other then that no reason to lick... go ahead and take a chomp =)

Its fun. But I don't usually eat oreos, the "cream filling" is just shortning and sugar.
to savor..to eat slower and because you can...people often like to seperate to taste 2 different tastes..the creamy center and then the chocolate..as there are 2 flavors in the oreo cookie...i dunno why someone would find their own saliva disgusting..if its so disgusting how would u justify swallow it when ur mouth fills up with it when it waters.

Licking them gets the cream out of the middle so I can dunk them easier which I love dunking them without the cream. Unless it's chocolate oreos then I dunk the whole cookie without licking.
