If you read in the dark you are doing some certain damage to your eyes. You have to focus in harder and you may not even know that you are straining your eyes. Even just to get out of bed in the dark--in the moment before you turn on the light you put a strain on your eyes. I wouldn't suggest reading in the dark or a dimly lit room.
