How long should she be on the mobilizer after knee replacement surgery?!

Question: My Mother-in-law had knee replacement surgery about 4 years ago, and i was her primary care giver during her time of recovery, her sister has just had the surgery and my mother-in-law is caring for her, and we cant remember how long she was on the mobilizer during her recovery.. anyone know how long and how often?

The device is called the Continuous Passive Motion(CPM) machine.
you strap the leg in and it bends and straightens the leg for the patient

**I know this is in Polls and Surveys, my question wasn't getting any hits in the medicine catagory..and my Mother-in-law is waiting for me to cmoe up with an answer... and i knew that someone here would have an answer for me, you guys always have the best answers for everything.. thanks in advance!!

Try WebMD

I had knee surgery and you only use the immobilizer for about 2 days then you dont use it any longer. After I got out of the hospital I was put on exercises straight away.

when I didn't have an immobilizer I used a towel wrapped one end around my foot and pulled upwards SLOWLY. Use only under the disgression of the doctor though, as everyone is different.

As far as I know, the CPM is used in the Hospital setting. My gm is in the swing unit and is currently using one.

When I was working at the hospital, pts were never sent home with a CPM. I am not saying that they never are, I am just saying in my exp. they were always used in the hospital.

The nurses should be the ones doing all of that.

It should be written on doctor's orders how long and often if they did send ya'll home with one.
