Question: I was a wild-eyed radical for a long time. NONE of the marches or protests I attended were successful in stopping whatever it was we were against.

Now, I understand that my vote is the only useful political tool at my disposal...

    Yes, the vote is the best tool. I once thought petitions with thousands of names was a good idea, until I talked with Senator John Stennis from Mississippi. He told me that a petition letter didn't have much impact. Rather than 1 letter with a thousand names, get a thousand people to send a letter with only their name. A flood of mail makes a bigger impact than a lot of names on one letter. So, if you want somethng, wrte the representatves and senators, and be sure to let them know that your vote is contingent on their vote.

    I'm talking to everybody I meet wherever, about the prices and telling them to CALL their Congressman!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lock up their phone lines with calls!!! Just DO something!!!!!
    Dondi is right about the single letter but I must take exception with the demonstrations not being effective. Vietnam without protests? How long do you think that would have dragged on? A single protest no, but a series of them over time will make an impact. Martin Luther King?
