How innocent can someone be when they lie to protect their sanity?!

    That assumes that all lying is a bad thing.

    If it is not a bad thing then they can be completely innocent.

    If it has to be a bad thing then they can not be innocent at all.

    But, not everyone believes that all lies are a bad thing.

    And sanity is overated. If you have to lie to protect it then perhaps it is not worth protecting, at least if you value your integrity.

    It is up to the individual to decide what is important.

    Protecting one's sanity is more admirable than trying to protect one's ego...

    ...often a "lie" to protect does not carry a guilty verdict for it shelters rather than destroys
