Actually, it is not a highway, it is a state road. All state roads are given numbers. They may also have names as this state road does but thier official state designation is a number. I am not familiar with this area but being in Louisiana, a possible explanation for why it just ends may be that there is a swamp at the end of the road. It happens a lot in Louisiana. I know, my wife's family is from Lake Charles.
