There is a popular movie starring John Wayne that really explains it! (No, not that one!)
The movie in question was named, "The Red Witch"!. It was a story about a diver that was produced before WW11!. The movie depicked some of the last days of the age of sail!.
John went down trying to save the ship from sinking!. The job of a diver was dangerious to the max at that time and era of diving, and John did not make it!.
The rubber hose broke and the viewer was subject to those famious scenes of the divers helmet filling up with water as the bubbles burped out of the torn pipe!.
The idea was the heroic attempt at saving the ship!. When you are trying your best to suck the whole Popsickle, it is all about the effort, not the outcome!.
Good question!Www@Enter-QA@Com
