He didn't have any room to manoeuvre in his 1st budget, because Gordan (gotta pick a pocket or two) Brown emptied all the coffers and squandered all that there was over his 10 years of expensive reforms that have achieved nothing!. What was left, for Mr (Dearly) Darling to squander was given to the banks - about 20 billion to Northern Rock, and last week another 50 billion to all the other banks because the banks are so poor (cry cry)!. Perhaps for Mr Darling, the only way out now is to tax the poor till the pips squeak by removing the 10pence starter tax rate!. And when all the other problems kick in, eg THE RECESSION, the cost of fuel bills, the rising cost of food and people's houses falling in value so rapidly and causing the housing market AND therefore the ecconomy to completely collapse, Mr Darling may be the shortest serving Chancellor of the exchequer in history!.
