With respect it is a little cheesy, all anyone will think is "oh you've named her after the singer Aaliyah", they won't think "what a beautiful name"!. I was in a shop years ago and a mother called out "Keanu, will you come here please!", it made everyone in the shop laugh because it was so utterly ridiculous!!.

This was my 2nd choice to name my beautiful daughter who is now 6 months old!.!.!.my first choice ended up being after my Grandmothers (first and middle names)!.!.!.!.but it was a last minute decision, otherwise I probably would have named her this!. It's a beautiful name no matter how you look at, regardless of who had it before!. And if Aaliyah was an inspiration to you, as she was to me (with her song "dust yourself off and try again) didn't matter what the song was about cuz when I heard that lyric!.!.!.I dusted myself off and I tried again!!! I'd go with Alia, which is pronounced "uh-LEE-uh!." For some reason everyone mispronounces Aaliyah and says "uh-LEE-uh" but her name was actually pronounced "AH-lee-uh!." I saw her on a late night talk show (Craig Kilborne or Carson Daly or something) about 2 months before she died and she corrected the host's pronunciation of her name!.

I considered naming my daughter Aaliyah, but the only way that I would agree to it was if we spelled the name Aleah or some other way so that there wouldn't be a direct association!. It is a very pretty name!. Use it if that is what you really like, it is your daughter!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
