My uncle smoked from when he was 17 and still is at 69 and has no health issues!. A neighbour of mine also is a heavy smoker and shes in her 100's!. So why does some people die from smoking and others live to a ripe old age with no health issues!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

We all take our own chances, we all live our own lives, we all have our own decisions to make!.
Do you want to choose to take a risk because "some people live"!? Or do you want to choose not to smoke because "many people die"!?
I'm not judging you!. I am still trying to quit smoking!.!.!. I'm just not willing to fool myself with a few examples of healthy smokers, after I spent four years caring for every one of my mothers needs, from showering to administering meds!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Part of it is genetic predisposition to cancer!.!.!. SOME folks can smoke for 80 years and die without developing cancer or emphysema!.

ALL smoke contains carcinogens!.!.!. be it from cigarettes, pipe, cigar, wood-fires, or auto-exhaust!.

The GOVERNMENT has determined a link to cancer!.!.!. after being pushed to do so!. And pushed FURTHER to suggest that second-hand smoke causes cancer!.!.!. THAT study is still under severe scrutiny!.

I've smoked for the last 20 years, and have cancer!. My mother died of lung cancer (SHE was very predisposed to cancer)!. But, my father's mother smoked lightly and lived to be 104!.!.!. ah the fun of the genesWww@Enter-QA@Com

thousands of people smokers or non smokers are dying of cancer etc, my mother was a light smoker about 20 a day her throat and lungs were blocked up with tar caused by smoking some people may not show signs of cancer at 100 but smoking gives other bad illnesses like short of breath TB and respiratory disease's if my mother and father didnt smoke the would be alive today!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Bullets don't kill everyone either,

You are abslultely correct, not everyone appears to have the same effects from smoking, but there have been studies done over the last 50 years!.

They follow people throughout their lives and smokers die on average a lot younger than non smokers!.
That does not mean that everyone will die at a certain tragically young age, but everyone that smokes will die sooner than they would have otherwise, excluding accidental death!.
Why risk it!? when my Dad died of emphysema, I saw men in their 40's on the same ward that needed an oxygen bottle to walk down the hall and take a shower!.
You dont want that, I can guarantee!.
The lucky ones get cancer and die within a year or two, the unlucky ones die of emphysema slowly, a day at a time over years and years!.
If you really want to see the effects, do this, go to a V!.A!. hospital and visit the respiratory ward and sit and talk with the veterans, they are genuine American heros that risked their lives for our freedom, see how they are doing, ask how they feel!.
My Dad did, and he had been smoking for over 60 years, it scared him into quitting that very same day!. It still killed him but quitting added some quality time to his life!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Would you like to see a picture of my mom!? She died from Lung Cancer 9 years ago!.
She fell and thought she broke her rib, had x-rays and they found a spot on her lungs!. Less than a year later she was 65 pounds, nearly bald ( her hair had just started to grow back) the cancer had spread and was eating her lungs as well as her ribs!. She had gotten a bed sore and because her skin was thin her tailbone broke through the skin and we could see her bones!. That wasn't caused by neglect, it was caused from the cancer and a combo of Chemo and radiation therapy!.
My mom started smoking at 13 and she died at 57!. She smoked for 43 years!. She left behind me and my three siblings, my dad, many grand kids!.
All that my daughter remembers of Nana was that she was bald and had no teeth!. You see the cancer shriveled her body so much that her dentures were too big for her mouth!.
My mother looked like a Holocaust survivor!.
I have no idea why smoking kills some and not others!. Two of my aunts also died from Lung cancer and other forms of cancer as well!.

All I know is that taking care of my mom was a very humbling experience and I see people smoke thathave kids and it just breaks my heart!.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of my mom!. I love her and I wish more people would quit smoking so they could live to a ripe old age and see their children and grandchildren grow!. I miss my mom like crazy!!!
