What do u think about ear piercings on babies / toddlers ?!

Question: What do u think about ear piercings on babies / toddlers !?
i have a 5 year old son!. every day i wait outside the school gates for him, and every day i am amazed to see how many parents have taken their babies / toddlers to have their ears pierced!.

is it just me that sees this as totally wrong !? surely it's not right to put your very young child through unnecessary suffering, just because u think they'd look cute with ear rings !? i've had my ears pierced twice - and it's not a pain that i would willingly inflict on any child, just for the sake of fashion!.

i think that children under the age of 8 years old should not be allowed to have piercings!. what are your thoughts on this subject !?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I had my daughters done at a very early age, I sincerely regret it now, not that she objects, I just wish I hadn't done it!.

One side is slightly higher than the other, when their ears are so small and they don't keep still it is difficult to make it exact!.

She's 15 now and she says quite glad because she's not sure she'd be brave enough to go!.!.!.!.!.!.

Edit: Sparkle is like that, I have a 'lovely' image of her in my head, that stops me from getting wound up about it, council flat, fatherless children, think Waynetta Slob!.!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I at first thought it was alright and in some cases I suppose it is!. When my daughter was 5 she wanted her ears pierced so I let her, it is not a painful experience matter of fact it hurts more for her to get her immunizations!. However, after the fact getting her to let me clean them 3x's a day was very hard, that and add the fact that children love to touch things, especially odd things in their ears, with their dirty fingers it is a playground for bacteria!. Hers became infected even after the 6 week wait and we ended up taking them out!. I think now that a child should be at least 8 or 10 before piercing, they will be better able to take care of them that way!.

but to each their ownWww@Enter-QA@Com

i think its less painful than a vaccination or circumcision and nobody thinks twice about that!. I do think its a little selfish for parents to make that decision for the child, but i don't really think it hurts them either, most kids only cry for about 10 seconds, they'll be fine!.
As a parent, u learn to respect other people's decisions about parenting, you wouldn't want anybody telling you what to do with your children now would you!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

i think it's the parents discretion

edit: LMAO thumbs down!? If it bothers you people so much maybe you shouldn't be worrying about other peoples kids and worry about your own!. It's not that big of a deal, we're talking about ear piercings here!. They have been around for centuries, it's not like a freaking navel piercing or something of that sort!. They forget about it 5 minutes later anyway and it doesn't kill them!. Get over it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i find it morally wrong!. if the child wants their ears pierced then by all means if they are willing to go through the quick sharp pinch-like pain and the weeks of aftercare then by all means pierce them!.!.!.!.when they are old enough to afford it themselves

it should be the child's choice, its their ears!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I will only let my daughter have her ears pierced when she asks me herself, that way it will be because she wants them done and not because I want her to have them done!. My mum was the same and only let me get mine done when I asked her myself, I was only four but I really wanted them done!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Don't like it - I was in a jewellery shop once and saw a baby that was less than a year old having her ears pierced and she was screaming - and the mother was sitting there smiling!. I can't imagine willingly inflicting pain on my child unless necessary (ie childhood innoculations)Www@Enter-QA@Com

I totally agree!. If kids can't have tattoos, they shouldn't be allowed piercings either!. I once had to walk out of a jewellery shop because some chavs took their little girl in to have her ears pierced and she screamed so loud it was heartbreaking!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

who cares what other people do with their children, personally I don't think it's any of my business, I am not here to judge what other people do to their kids, and neither should you!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i don't think it's right

i think if a child should be allowed to get their ears pierced when and if they ask!. Even if they are 5, they asked for it and they wanted it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's a decision that should be made by the person getting the piercing!. If a toddler is unable to request it, then the parent should not do it!. It's like putting them in a contest!. They didn't ASK to be there!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I thought the law was older !?!? maybe its all changed

i think you should leave it till the child has matured into an adult and decide for themselves

for gods sake let them be kids whilst their kids !!

not tattoo's no piercings !.!. not till they can maturely decide for themselves !.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I agree!.!. its like doing cosmetic surgery without somebodies permission!.!.
parents vanity for the sake of parent vanity!.!. it has NO benefit for the child what so ever!.!.!. and risks infection!.!. if they want it done when they are older - they can do it!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

my little cousin had her ears pierced at 1 years old!.
she didnt cry, and she didnt experience any pain, and she looks adorable with earrings :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't like to see a baby/toddler/younger child with earrings!. I think a child should (at least) be in junior high before s/he is allowed to have her or his ears pierced!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

its sick as these are children and not dolls and they should be able to make the decision themselves when they are old enough, not forced to at a tender ageWww@Enter-QA@Com

after seeing what happened to my step daughter, I would never do it until they are about 5-7!. hers were so off, that trying to correct how they looked with a double piercing was difficult!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i personally don't like it and won't let my daughter have her's done until she is at least 10!.that's if she wants them doing at all!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think that parents should wait until the child is 10, becuse by then she will know if she wants it done or notWww@Enter-QA@Com

When they are around 12 or 13 then i think it is ok!. I hate seeing little babies with their ears pierced walking with their stupid mums!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think it's awful, I think that the child should choose whether they want something big like thatWww@Enter-QA@Com

Totally chavvy!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i dont think it good

for us we dont think its alot of pain but for babies they're more fragile and it will hurt!.
i dont like itWww@Enter-QA@Com

Not good, doesn't look nice on children under the age of 5!.!.especially if they are hoops!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think that the child should decide if they want it!. Why put holes in a persons body without their consent!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't agree with it personallyWww@Enter-QA@Com

im not keen on seeing children that young with their ear's pierced!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i think it is kinda of silly!.!.!. obviously its not for the kids benefit!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i don't think you shud pierce their ears until they are old enough to make their own decision if they want to or not!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think you have put too much thought into this!.!.!.!.I don't see anything wrong with it!.!.!.Not supporting it, but nothing wrong!. babies don't remember most of anything!.!.!.if anything they're getting prepared!.!.!.they will know from the beginning that life is painfulWww@Enter-QA@Com

I think you should do it when they are 5 because they dont remember the painWww@Enter-QA@Com
