Question: Has anyone ever texted a number to get a ringtone!?
and then cancelled it, but still been charged £1-50 every time they text you relentlessly!? My partner texted to get a ringtone, then cancelled the service but they are still sending texts and charging him for it!. Any ideas how to stop them!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hello bud

as most on here have already said, text stop or unsubscribe (should say on the msg) to the number!. If they still continue then you need to find as much info on the company as possible!.

Going to your airtime provider will not help other than them POSSIBLY being able to supply you with another contact number for the company!. The way it works in terms of costs is that the dodgy company sends you a text and charges it to your mobile account!. Your airtime provider then pays the dodgepots as they say you owe them money!. The airtime provider does not have any way to prove that you are not responsible for the costs and therefore pays it, leaving you to foot the bill, on your bill!.

If after making contact with the dodgepots you still receive the texts, send a recorded delivery letter to their registered office stating that you are in contact with OFCOM (or other regulatory body in your own country) and will be pursuing the matter through the small claims courts if all costs to date are not reimbursed!.

I wok in the mobile industry and this is what i advise ALL customers in this situation to do!. It tends to work no probs with customers receiving full refunds 99% of the time!.

2 other pieces of advice would be:
1) Never EVER use these lines/numbers - they are a rip-off which hide behind the small print in ALL cases!.
2) If you get a resolution to your problem, post details of the company online alongside what you did, so that other people in the same situation can seek guidance and support (as well as rubbishing the dodgepot company:)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Replying "stop" to a text will usually cease the messages!.
One time, I was looking for a ringtone T-Mobile didn't have yet ("Lollipop" by Lil Wayne) and I ended up adding, like, a bajillion dollars to my bill, even though I have unlimited texting, because I'd forgotten I was "subscribed" to their services!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No I don't use ringtones!. Even if I did, I'd just copy the MP3 file onto the phone myself with the PC cable!. People who text these stupid numbers that send crappy messages all the time and take all your credit are suckers!. They're like viruses, if texting STOP to the number doesn't work, you're pretty much screwed!. They won't reply even if you try and contact them because they're just scams!. Easier to buy a new Sim card off eBay for a couple of quid and use that one!. It will change your number and you can start again (but don't text any of those numbers from the new one)!. :-)Www@Enter-QA@Com

No, because I have heard horror stories like yours before!.

To cancel you have to send the word "STOP" to the number!. However these companies are very crafty, there may be something else to do to cancel, read the small print in the terms and conditions very carefully and follow them exactly!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

how did he cancel it!?!?!?
i dont know what you guys tried but what i do is text back "stop" and usually they stop if not go to their web site and there should be a contact number and call them and tell them your problem! now if that dont work when you get your bill and see the charges call your company and tell them "you know what!? i did not txt this number i dont know whats going on!. they keep on txtin me and i cant stop it can you credit it on my bill!?" good luckWww@Enter-QA@Com

Yes and it's flipping annoying! You need to send the word STOP to the number!. That should stop them altogether!. If not, contact your phone company and they will be able to help you!. For some reason, i got a load of spam from one phone company and had a text saying would i like XXX texts!. Eurrghh! I wondered how they got my number but turns out they can easily without your permission!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You may have to go to their website to unsubscribe - it will be in the smallest of print and usually at the bottom of the magazine page or wherever you got the text number fromWww@Enter-QA@Com

i did that a while ago!.!.!. but i wuz 10 so i didnt really no wat i wuz doin!.!.!. and i had 2 get a new sim card!.!.!. :L
umm!.!.!. the provider of the ringtone usually sends u a msg sayin "if u would like 2 stop this service text "stop" to 4453 now" or sumhin like that!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Try texting "unsuscribe" to the numberWww@Enter-QA@Com

Try going through their web page or better blocking the number !.!.!. you can either do it via your provider or some handsets allow you to do it !.!.!.!.!. hope that helpsWww@Enter-QA@Com

My daughter did that and to cancel it I had to text stop to the company and thankfully no more charges!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I wouldn't know!. It's kind of hard to trust anybody these days, especially when they claim something is being given to you for free!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
