Question: Question on sending out resumes after losing job due to economy!?
I just found out that, due to economic hardships, my boss is letting me go at the end of July!. When I send out resumes, should I reference why I'm looking for a new job!? I'm having trouble deciding what to put on the cover letter!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would start sending out your resume today! The job market is not great right now, so you need to get it out there asap!. You need to list your current job as "current"!. Leave the lay-off explanation for the interview!.

Your cover letter should be as simplfied as possible, only stating your information and the position title you are applying for!. And make sure you put a good number to reach you at!. Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I advise that you do not reference why you lost your job in your cover letter or on your resume!. This is something you want to explain in person!.

The purpose of your C&R is to brag about your accomplishments, and to explain your objectives, as well as why you are a good fit for the position you are applying for!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hi Mel,

I am a technical recruiter and I can tell you that this is a common problem!. There is no reason why you cannot be honest about this situation, but you do want to be sure not to sound "desperate" although it may be hard at times given the circumstances!. You can indicate that you are seeking an opportunity that is a strong match for your skills and that will enhance your career path, not just something to pay the bills (even if that is true ;) ) Oh, and we don't really pay much mind to the cover letter at my company, so I am not sure how that is viewed when applying online directly!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Absolutely! I'm in the same position-none-and have sent out 35 resumes and have interviewed and all that new job stuff!. You're more apt to receive feedback because any potential employer will contact your boss anyway!. I could afford to be picky because of the generous separation from my former employer!. Be picky but be honest-just the facts however!. Don't over inform-let them ask!. DO say why you've been let go!. It's not a sin to lose a job!. Just feels that way!. Good luck!. I can feel for you!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No I would not specify why you were leaving, Just leave is as your 19XX to Current (or 200X to Current) list the job name and title as per usual!. As far as they are concerned you're looking to advance your career!.

Even at interview time you can still say the reason that your leaving is to better your career or wanted a change of pace!. If they ask what your availability is, just inform them that you'd have to give your current employer XYZ weeks notice before you can change jobsWww@Enter-QA@Com

I don't think you need include that, but it wouldn't hurt your chances if you did!. Sometimes on the actual application it's asked why you left your last job, and there I'd say the business closed!.

Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com

No!.!.!.Don't put ur foot in ur mouth, just do a regular cover letter for ur resume!. Now in the interview that is up to you to let them know or not!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

There's no shame in stating that you've been "downsized!." It's happening everywhere and it is no shock to anyone!. Be honest up front and you should be fine!Www@Enter-QA@Com

no u can mention that during ur interview!. Try to fax out as many reumes as possible!. If a company has interst they will call u!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Under reason for leaving last job I would put:

President George W!. Bush is an imbecile!.

or you could put

"let go due to cutbacks"Www@Enter-QA@Com

If they think you got fired for any reason they might not hire you!. So I dont think you should put that on there, but thats just my opinion!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
