In my own theory, I think the size isn't the best indication, but the stuff that's inside!. If her purse is FULL to the rim, she's a bit dependent on her material goods!. If her purse has the bare essentials, she's an independent woman!
Size does make a difference though!. The stuffed smaller purse owner has more independence than the large stuffed purse owner!. The bare essentials large purse owner has more independence than the stuffed small purse owner!.

It is a sign of how much stuff she feels she has to carry around with her to be comfortable, so I'd say yes!. My sister carries tiny purses with about nothing in them and she's very independent!. I have a co-worker always fretting about everything who carries a small pharmacy, full makeup, hand sanitizer, lysol, food, and who knows what all else in a huge tote!.
