I used to be fastidious about following the rules!. Then I gradually noticed all these people around me doing whatever they wanted when and how they wanted--obviously I'm talking about work here!. Meanwhile, they're laughing and happy and having a good time, getting to go home ON TIME and making the same money I was, while the boss never said a word to them!. While I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to do everything "properly" and I was miserable!. I didn't get any special praise for following the rules--it's like no one even noticed!. Except it took me longer to get out because following all the rules to the letter slows you down, and they don't like you being there longer than you're supposed to!. I hated it; and I hated the rule breakers for getting away with it; and I hated the bosses!. So one day I said "to heck with it" and started breaking the rules myself!. Everything got easier, I was happier, didn't get in trouble, and I got to go home on time!. So at least at that particular place, there was zero incentive to follow the rules and every reason in the world to break them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
