In short: To start people used the "go back and edit later" thing to add more information later, as an update!.
Then it became a fun way to play games and screw with Yahoo!'s head, because it's just so *easy* to do!.
Then!.!.!.Yahoo! Answers "upgraded" their Answer A Question screen, putting the Stupid Pencil in there, instead of their humbler Spell Check feature!. So now the Edit thing's become a work-around for *that* since editing your Answer brings back the older, *More functional* and less intrusive interface!.

It was used way back to 'placehold', so you get to be first!
Now it's just used so people playing avatar games get to join and look at all of the options before picking their answers!.
I think it's kind of pathetic when it's done to hold a spot!.!.!.!.actually 'reportable', but I'm not wasting my time on it!.
**The people the person above me is talking about are probably the same ones who come back to 'add' things later!.!.!.only to just swipe the answers below them!. Or they come back and see someone else has added something extra, so they have to go grab things to make their answer 'better'!. That's happened to me too many times, I make a note or star things when I come back and add them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
