I need a little help from my friends?!

In view of my recent illness, it has been suggested I step down!. Retire!. Okay, I have cancer, but I am told it is benign!. There is no reason it should affect my job!. I realise I will not be able to get around the village as much as I should, but I could be assigned a helper!. The committee is quite adamant and expect an answer following their suggestion of 'retirement'!. I have just sailed past sixty and feel fine!. But get rather tired and need nap time during the day!.
