say the child is 7 and runs up and grabs your butt, but before you can react the child's mother runs up and says excuse her, she doesn't know any better!.
would you secretly want to smack the child believing it does know better!?

You were correct to use restraint!. The child may have an emotional or mental challenge which shows itself in behavior which most people think of as "inappropriate," but you would feel terrible if you created a scene and then got it explained to you that there was a part of the story you did not understand!. You are also probably wise to assume that the child's mother is perfectly aware of what is appropriate and what isn't, and that if she could, she would long ago have corrected the behavior!. Possibly she's an exhausted parent, trying desperately to deal with a challenging child, she couldn't take the time to explain all the details to you, and she much appreciated your kindness in just letting it pass!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
