No!. Most civilized (and recorded) exploration and mapmaking occurred in the Northern Hemisphere!. One of the primary navigation aids was the North Star!. North was known first and cartography was built around North from the very beginning!. It's just the way it is!.!.!.because it started that way!.
In fact, it wasn't until the late 15 - early 1600s that Australia was even drawn onto maps!. There used to be blank spot there or decorative sea creatures, ships, etc!.
